HEARTBURN and Gastritis

Heartburn is primarily caused by an elevated gastric acid spilling into the throat or gullet.

The best way to reduce your symptoms of gastritis is to be self-aware.

Know which food items cause irritation and be conscious of your eating habits. This includes both type of meal and quantity, but also the time of eating.

It goes without saying that acidic, peppery, gaseous, and spicy foods are not recommended; however, some people are not aware that some seemingly healthy habits should also be contraindicated in ulcer and GERD sufferers. In the attempt to live a more healthy life, a lot of people cultivate the habit of taking lemon or lime juice in the mornings or on empty stomachs, but are unaware that this is a recipe for more troubling gastric acid symptoms.

The key is that, once you know you have a tendency for gastric irritation including dyspepsia and heartburn (also known as GERD), take the following precautions:

  • Take little to no SPICY food.
  • Take little to no GASEOUS or FIZZY drinks.
  • Take little to no FRIED or OILY foods.
  • Don’t take CITRIC or ACIDIC foods on an empty stomach.

And if you do experience a heartburn episode, you can indulge in things like oatmeal, or plant-based milk.

In fact, chewing and ingesting dry oats is a fantastic antidote for dyspeptic episodes, from heartburn, gastritis, all the way to varying degrees of ulcers.
